CLASS BAND

In Class Band, students learn to play different wind instruments as a group from the beginning. Every lesson the students will play together in an orchestra and will be able to participate in the world of music. Class Band consists of the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and euphonium.
Students join a newly formed band and attend lessons for one hour every week, during school term times. Each lesson is designed to help students learn to play their chosen instrument, read notation and develop an understanding of music theory.
All students are given unlimited access to MUSAGO free of charge. This is an online platform designed to develop students’ understanding of all the aspects of music theory. With short animated videos, interactive quizzes and fun worksheets, this is the perfect accompaniment to your Class Band sessions.
FAQs
The best way to understand how Class Band works is to try it out. However, we understand you may have a few questions, so please find below a few questions and answers that may help. If we don’t answer your question then please send us a message and we will get back to you – on 07555 566 992.
Do I need an instrument to join?
No, not at the start. In the first session you will be given the opportunity to try all the instruments. Some people are more suited to certain instruments, so we will guide you to the best instrument for you. These instruments are provided for all Class Band sessions for as long as you require, so you can use these for as long as you need.
Once you’re settled on an instrument and confident that you are going to continue, then you may purchase your own instrument. This will help you develop your playing further as you will be able to practice at home.
We can also offer advice on instruments when purchasing and we may be able to get you an educational discount on Yamaha Instruments.
How often and how long are the sessions?
Sessions are held once a week, lasting one hour.
We run during school term times only, delivering a total of 37 sessions per year.
What if I can’t make one week?
As part of the learning experience we always repeat information from week to week. This helps to reinforce and retain the knowledge. So if you miss one week you will be able to catch up very quickly.
Am I too old to learn?
Absolutely not!
As we age, engaging in creative and social activities becomes increasingly important for our overall well-being. Group music-making offers a unique blend of cognitive, emotional, and social benefits.
There are many more benefits of learning music as we get older including; enhancing cognitive function, reduced risk of dementia, emotional expression and regulation, building new friendships, enhancing communication skills, a sense of belonging, improved motor skills, breath control and other respiratory benefits, as well as stress relief.
Is my child old enough to learn?
Our normal recommended age is 8 years old, however this is dependant on the individual child. We have had children who struggle with the sessions at 8. If your child is struggling then we may advise to stop the sessions and try again when they are slightly older.
