Our Story
The North Shields Guitar Orchestra brings together classical guitar players to perform as an orchestra. If you play classical guitar and can sight-read a simple line of music then you are most welcome to join.
Perhaps you learned to play in school and haven’t played for a few years? Lets dust off that guitar and use those skills you spent so long learning!
Repertoire will be varied in style and parts will be developed for players of different standards.
Michael Mather – Conductor
North Shields Guitar Orchestra is directed by Michael Mather.
Academically, Michael received his BMus (Hons) in 2016, followed by his MMus in Creative Practice through the University of Newcastle in 2018 where he specialised in composition, free improvisation and Hindustani Classical Music.
Since then Michael has developed a wealth of experience as a performer, teacher and musical director. He is currently the conductor for the Vermont Big Band.
