Michael Mather

Michael is an internationally touring performer, educator, and conductor with extensive experience across live performance and music education. He has collaborated with artists including The Weather Girls, Peter Donegan, LYR, and L Devine, performing at major festivals, concert halls, and national events throughout the UK and Europe.

His notable performances include appearances with Peter Donegan at Costa Festival 2025 and with The Weather Girls on their 2025 UK mini tour. In 2023, he performed at Left of the Dial Festival in Rotterdam alongside India Arkin. He has also performed at the prestigious National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in both 2022 and 2024.

Additional highlights include performing with Soulutions in support of Change at Birmingham Town Hall in 2024, and appearing at Mouth of the Tyne Festival in 2015 with L Devine (then performing as Olivia Devine).

Michael holds a Master of Music (MMus) from Newcastle University, specialising in composition and free improvisation. He also earned a 2:1 BMus (Hons) in Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music from University of Sunderland, with a focus on performance and composition.

His additional qualifications include Grade 8 Drums (Trinity), Grade 6 Piano (LCM), and Grade 5 Music Theory (ABRSM).

Michael teaches Drums, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar and Keyboard at both our Blyth and North Shields schools.
