A new daytime choir starting in January 2027
Come along and discover the joy of singing together with YMS Community Choir, a brand-new daytime choir for anyone who loves music and would like to sing as part of a friendly, welcoming group.
Our rehearsals will take place in Blyth on Thursday mornings from 10:00am to 11:30am, with a short break halfway through for a cup of tea or coffee and a chance to chat and get to know fellow choir members. Please note there are stairs to get up to the room where we rehearse at Yamaha Music School Blyth.
We’ll enjoy singing a wide range of music, from folk and pop to classical works, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Music will be provided for everyone. You don’t need extensive choir or singing experience to join us. A little experience would be beneficial, but most importantly, you should enjoy singing and be willing to have a go!
Free to try in January
January 2027 is completely FREE, giving you the opportunity to come along, meet the choir and see if YMS Community Choir is right for you.
After January, membership is £14 per month, with payments spread throughout the year. This covers all the costs of rehearsals, sheet music and concerts.
Neil Morton – Conductor
YMS Community Choir will be led by Neil Morton. He has extensive experience and is currently the conductor for both Wansbeck Voices and Ashington & District Male Voice Choir.
Academically, Neil received his York Degree in 1998 and a Masters degree in Music in 2002 from Newcastle University. During his Masters, Neil studied conducting under Eric Cross. Since then he has developed extensive experience leading community music projects and groups.
